How to use it

  1. Choose a platform content type or use general counting.
  2. Type or paste the copy; counts update immediately.
  3. Edit text that exceeds the selected limit, then verify in the platform composer before publishing.

Method and formula

Characters are counted as Unicode code points rather than JavaScript UTF-16 units, so most emoji count more naturally. Words are whitespace-separated; line breaks count newline characters.

Worked example

Select X post to compare copy against the configured 280-character limit. The remaining value becomes negative when the text exceeds that limit.

Limitations

  • Platforms can use weighted counting rules for links, emoji or non-Latin scripts; this is a practical approximation.
  • Limits and product behavior may change. Always verify important posts in the official composer.
  • A character limit does not predict where previews or feeds visually truncate copy.
