Social Media Engagement Rate Calculator

Choose the denominator that matches your report. The same interactions can produce very different rates depending on whether you use followers, reach, impressions or views.

✓ Private by default: calculations run in your browser and inputs are not uploaded.

An explicit total takes priority. Otherwise likes, comments, shares and saves are added.

Engagement rate

5.00%

100 engagements ÷ 2,000 followers × 100

How to use it

  1. Choose followers, reach, impressions or views as the basis.
  2. Enter an engagement total, or add likes, comments, shares and saves.
  3. Calculate the rate and keep the denominator visible when reporting it.

Method and formula

Engagement rate = total engagements ÷ selected audience measure × 100. If no total is entered, this tool adds likes, comments, shares and saves.

Worked example

A post with 100 engagements and reach of 2,000 has a 5% engagement-by-reach rate. Against 10,000 followers, the same post has a 1% engagement-by-followers rate.

Limitations

  • Platforms define and expose interactions differently; use the same inputs when comparing posts.
  • Do not compare rates with different denominators as if they were equivalent.
  • This tool does not claim a universal good rate; compare like-for-like historical performance.
